Our words direct our lives

“Then God said, ‘Let there be light’; and there was…”Gen 1:3

Isn’t it interesting that when God wanted to create the earth He did it with words? Even in redeeming the world from sin He sent a ‘Word’…and the Word became flesh and dwelt among us. John 1:14 When God created words and gave us the ability to use them, He new exactly what He was doing. He gave us something which on the surface seems so basic but at its depths is tremendously potent.

We have a powerful tool called the tongue, it creates a valuable product called words. Words can multiply our thoughts, direct our feelings and agree or disagree with our spirit. We should never underestimate the use and power of our words on ourselves and others. Just as words can be used to build up, they can also be used to tear down. Jim Rohn has said words do two major things, “They provide food for the mind and create light for understanding and awareness.” This is true because your mind feeds off of either what it has seen or what it continues to see. And one way to change what we see is to begin to change what we say to form a new picture of what we want to see. In studying the lives of successful people you will usually discover that they always spoke about the passion they wanted to achieve, not of the position in which they were currently in. Hence whether consciously or unconsciously, they were speaking life into themselves and their dreams. Carl Lewis used to tell himself before a big race "Get out of the blocks, run your race, stay relaxed. If you run your race, you'll win... channel your energy. Focus." He gave his mind a picture of what needed to be done to win his race.

Your future is in your mouth. The devil’s plan is to get you to speak against yourself and your life so that you change the course of your future. He wants you to talk yourself out of the blessings that God promises you. God tells us that “…we all stumble in many things. If anyone does not stumble in word he is a perfect man able to bridle the whole body.” James 3:2 It’s not that we ’ll never make mistakes in life, but we should never keep ourselves down by what we say - that would be to self destruct. Our words help us to direct our actions. Discipline and diligence help us to keep them directed. Always appreciate friendships and sources that help to keep you on the ball, those that direct you to God’s wisdom and those where you can find words of truth, encouragement and correction.

“Your mouth is the multiplier of whatever is in your heart.” Mike Murdoch

Much of life actions emanate from our thoughts. If we want those thoughts to continue we can magnify them by speaking them and bringing them alive. The best words are God’s words because they remain eternal. Words like ‘I can do all things through Christ Who strengths me’ Phil 4:13 and ‘I know the thoughts that I thinks towards you, thoughts of peace and not of evil to give you a future and a hope’ Jer 29:11 These are words that remind us that through Christ God is for us and on our side.

Words - Speak them, live on them and grow in them.

God bless and protect

“Words which do not give the light of Christ increase the darkness.” Mother Teresa
