God's Thoughts on your Money

God has a lot to say about your money. Not only does he have a plan for you, but He also has principles and a purpose for your money. Let’s look at some of God’s thought’s concerning your money.

Share and give it

But do not forget to do good and to share, for with such sacrifices God is well pleased. Hebrews 13:16

God wants you to be a giver. He wants you to increase so you can be a blessing and help others better themselves. What’s the point in getting rich if it’s only for you? So what, you’ve now got a really nice house and car…and then what? Of course you can do what you want with the money you earned, but in God’s system there’s far more to be gained from giving to others. Actually this is a very important principle that you need to know; God “…supplies seed to the sower” 2 Corinthians 9:10. If you’re not sowing than why should God keep supplying you with seed?

Help others less fortunate

If a brother or sister is naked and destitute of daily food, 16 and one of you says to them, “Depart in peace, be warmed and filled,” but you do not give them the things which are needed for the body, what does it profit? James 2:15-16

There will be times when we can and should help those who are less fortunate by giving what we have. This is true love. God actually says that we are lending to Him. He who has pity on the poor lends to the Lord. And He will pay back what he has given . Proverbs 19:17

Be wise with your money

For even when we were with you, we commanded you this: If anyone will not work, neither shall he eat. 2 Thessalonians 3:10

It’s easy to say give to those in need. But there is also a time to hold back on your giving. Sometimes we must seriously check whether, in our attempts to help, we are really being a blessing. If someone refused to work or get a job and you kept giving them money and they spent it on going out and having fun then you’re probably creating a bigger problem then you realise.

Work for it

In all labour there is profit, but idle chatter leads only to poverty. Proverbs 14:23

If you’re waiting for the lottery to make you rich so you don’t have to work another day then you’re missing the point. It’s in our work that we discover what we value, what gifts we have and how far our ability can stretch. Even if you’re in a job that you don’t like that should be provoking you to discover what else you could do.

Manage it well

His lord said to him, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant; you were faithful over a few things, I will make you ruler over many things. Enter into the joy of your lord.’ Matthew 25:21

Of course God wants to increase you. But what if He kept giving you money and you kept squandering it? Does that make you a faithful steward that God should continue to increase? You need to learn to be faithful with even the little you have received. God respects that.

Increase and multiply it

‘Then God blessed them, and God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply; fill the earth and subdue it…’ Genesis 1:28

From the very beginning God’s mandate to mankind was our increase. It’s in our DNA. We are suppose to increase in that which is fruitful and good and decrease in that which causes pain and goes against God’s laws.

When you really begin to love God’s wisdom, He will cause you to inherit wealth

I traverse the way of righteousness, In the midst of the paths of justice, That I may cause those who love me to inherit wealth, That I may fill their treasuries. Proverbs 8:20-21

That doesn’t just mean being a person of prayer and good morals (this is important), but rather it means also respecting God’s principles concerning wealth and life.

Set a foundation for future generations

‘A good man leaves an inheritance to his children’s children…’ Proverbs 13:22

Wouldn’t it have been nice if we were all born into a nice inheritance and some good financial teaching to go with it? Well this may not have happened to most of us but there’s nothing stopping you from setting up future generations with that which you didn’t have. That’s why you have to succeed in life; so you can leave some kind of legacy of wealth and wisdom for future generations.

Build His kingdom on earth

And you shall remember the LORD your God, for it is He who gives you power to get wealth, that He may establish His covenant which He swore to your fathers, as it is this day. Deuteronomy 8:18

God’s plan stretched from the present until eternity. His desire is that no soul on this earth should perish, but that all will come to know His saving love and grace through Jesus Christ. 2 Peter 3:9 God wants to bless so we can be a blessing in our deeds, love and actions. There are really special prizes in eternity for those can win souls.

Enjoy it!

Command those who are rich in this present age not to be haughty, nor to trust in uncertain riches but in the living God, who gives us richly all things to enjoy. 1Timothy 6:17

Keep your trust in God and continually build a relationship with Him, but while you’re doing that enjoy what He gives you. Be wise, but every now and again treat yourself with something nice. Because, like that commercial from Loreal…”Your Worth It!”

For now I’ll stop there. There is really so much to discover from God’s word on your life and your wealth. May you find the keys that enrich you.

God bless and protect
